See how to make this soy sesame dressing with a spicy chili kick! This soy sesame dressing is easy to make and can be used for salads, noodles, and more!
This dressing is going to blow you away! As I mention in my BRAND NEW guide, the continuation of the original Make Cooking Fun!! - the Chef’s Mindset, you do have permission to not follow the rules and try out something completely out of the box! I’ll be honest and say that I’m not a big salad eater, but with the summer really into full swing now, I’m eager to try out some new creations! But don’t worry, you won’t see any boring salads here, I can assure you that!
When thinking of a new dressing to try out, what came to my mind is that I love deep Asian flavors, but I also wanted something unique for the heat. I had a brand new jar of bomba in my fridge. I did originally get it to make my Baked Spaghetti Casserole the week before, but I forgot to add this into the sauce, as indicated in the recipe! Whoops! Not wanting to let it just sit in my fridge, I pulled it out and thought it would be perfect to add some heat and some sweetness at the same time to this special dressing, bringing a little bit of an Italian flair to it. I plan on adding this to my smashed cucumber salad, so be sure to sign up to my email newsletter so you get that recipe sent straight to your inbox when it arrives, plus you’re up to date on all of my other new recipes!

Why You’ll Love It
Quick and easy to make: You can get this sauce ready in just about five minutes! This is a great recipe to make to add lots of incredible flavors to your food almost effortlessly.
Packed with flavor: This is a fresh dressing that’s got the perfect mix of Italian and Asian flavors with a wonderful aroma. This dressing is guaranteed to provide something unique that will have you wanting more! What’s awesome about making your own dressings is that they’re free of preservatives and have no “extra” ingredients that we don’t really need. This dressing is made all-natural with few ingredients!
Perfect to make in advance: This is so simple to prep and make, so it’s easily accessible to whip it up any day of the week! It keeps well in the fridge so you’ll have it ready for any occasion.
Extremely versatile: There are endless possibilities to use this amazing salad dressing! Check out the bottom of this post for lots of recipe inspiration!
Furthermore, there’s a bonus nutritional perk in this dressing. This dressing can also assist in boosting your potassium intake. Potassium is a vital mineral that supports muscle function, heart health, and keeps your electrolytes in check during those hot summer days. With ingredients like soy sauce and garlic, you’re adding more than just flavor; you’re nourishing your body with essential nutrients that keep you feeling energized and balanced.
You only need a couple of ingredients to create this punchy and bold Asian sesame dressing recipe! To save the recipe for later and to scale the recipe based on how much sauce you’re looking to make, scroll down to the bottom of this post for the FULL PRINTABLE RECIPE CARD or press the “Jump to Recipe” button. By default, this recipe will make about 2 Cups of the dressing.
Garlic cloves: I’m mincing fresh garlic cloves.
Soy sauce: If preferred, you can use a low sodium soy sauce instead of regular soy sauce.
Sesame oil: I’m using regular sesame oil, but if you would like to toast your sesame oil, I’ll share how to do this later on in the Variations section of this post!
Sugar: Granulated sugar works fine, but you can use a sweetener of your choice that will dissolve into the sauce. I’ll share
Bomba: This is the Italian flair we’re going for here! Bomba is Calabrian chilli pepper paste. It adds a slight bit of smokiness but doesn’t bring too much intense heat.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Add all of the ingredients to a large bowl and mix well.
Transfer the dressing to an air tight container and refrigerate immediately.
What to Serve It With
There are plenty of uses for this easy Asian-Italian fusion dressing recipe! Here are a couple of ideas!
Green salad: Pair your favourite veggies with lettuce and/or other leafy greens and fresh herbs and toss this dressing on top!
Noodle salads: You can make some amazing Asian salads with noodles of your choice, topped with carrots, cucumber, and green onions. You can use proteins of your choice, such as tofu, chicken, salmon or shrimp. Top with the dressing! My homemade Rice Pin Noodles (Loh Shi Fun) would be the perfect canvas for your noodle dishes. You could also top this over my Chicken Hakka Noodles or Tofu Noodle Stir Fry.
As a marinade: You can marinate your favourite proteins, including tofu, chicken, beef, pork, or seafood with this dressing.
Variations and Substitutions
Garlic: If you would like the garlic to essentially melt into the dressing, then you can grate the garlic cloves with a microplane instead of mincing them.
Bomba: I like bomba to add in the heat here. If you don’t have bomba, then you can substitute with some red chilli flakes, chilli sauce or sriracha. The traditional choice is chilli crisp, and this will bring more intense heat to your dressing than the bomba would.
Soy sauce: If you need the recipe to be gluten-free, you can substitute the soy sauce with tamari or coconut aminos.
Sesame oil: If you would like toasted sesame oil, then you can toast the oil with garlic and ginger, which will add more depth to the sauce.
Sweetener: Instead of sugar, you can substitute with maple syrup, honey or brown sugar. Keep in mind that if you use honey as a sweetener, this sauce recipe will no longer be vegan.
Ginger: Add some freshly grated ginger for a hint of freshness.
Citrus: Add a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice.

Storage
You can place your prepared dressing in an airtight container or mason jar in the refrigerator. With the raw garlic in here, I would not keep it in the fridge for longer than 3 to 4 days. The dressing may separate, so be sure to give it a shake before using it.
