What’s a Latte?

A latte is a drink that is made with espresso or strong brewed coffee, steamed milk, and milk foam. Unlike a cappuccino, the milk is blended with the coffee, and our milk foam on top is thin. A cappuccino has the three elements equally distributed and distinctly layered, which gives a cappuccino a more prominent coffee flavour. Additionally, this is probably why you don’t top cappuccinos with whipped cream - the milk foam on top is very fluffy and thick!

As you’ll see with this latte, we’re going to make this latte extra awesome because our steamed milk will contain crushed Oreo cookies that will be blended with the milk! This ensures you get that fantastic rich cookies and cream flavour in every sip, plus there’s more Oreo goodness on top, so you won’t be missing out at all and it’ll be great to the last sip!

Tools Needed to Make This Oreo Coffee Latte Recipe

Tips For A RIch & Creamy Oreo Latte!

  • Make sure you don't bring the milk to a boil, it only needs to be steamed for this recipe. Look for steam rising from the milk to know when it’s ready. Monitor closely to ensure the milk doesn’t boil over.

  • The sweetness level in the latte can be easily adjusted by adding more or less of the sugar in the latte.

  • The best alternative to a freshly made espresso is to prepare coffee using a French press. This results in a richer, stronger coffee since the coffee has the chance to steep and release more flavour, when compared to coffee made from a filtered method.

  • Serve immediately to enjoy the perfect milk foam!

A cutting board with gluten-free Oreos, a glass, pitcher, and all you need to make a creamy oreo latte with lactose-free milk.
  • Oreo cookies: They can be your favourite kind of Oreo, such as golden, or gluten-free as I did here. The cream may not matter since we’re going to crush them, but we will also have one on top so pick your favourite. You can even mix and match!

  • Milk: Any milk of your choice.

  • Vanilla extract

  • Coffee

  • Whipped cream

How to Make A Fantastic Oreo Latte

Crush the oreo cookies until crumbly.

Heat the milk in a saucepan with the crumbled oreos until steaming. The milk should start to change colour.

Once steaming, add the vanilla and mix.

With an electric frother or a whisk start to froth the milk and incorporate the oreos with the milk.

In the meanwhile prepare the coffee using a french press or use an espresso machine to prepare strong shots of espresso.

Add the coffee to the serving cups/glasses and then top with the frothed oreo milk and fill the cups/glasses.

Top with whipped cream and an oreo.

Can I make this an Oreo Iced Latte?

If you want to enjoy this drink in the summer or you’re just in the mood to have some cold coffee (I always say that it’s always a good time for good food!), then you can certainly enjoy your Oreo latte iced! All you need to do is follow the recipe by adding the crushed Oreos with the steamed milk while brewing your coffee. When the coffee or espresso is ready, place ice cubes into a shaker and pour your brewed coffee or espresso, followed by the milk. Shake it all up, then pour this into your cup and garnish with a nice dollop of whipped cream and the Oreo cookie. Enjoy!
