What pie is better than a chocolate pie? Go on, I’ll wait!

I had never made a pie until fall of last year, and now I can’t stop enjoying them! This No-Bake Nutella Cream Cheese Pie has been on my bucket list for quite some time, and I’m so happy I finally took some time last weekend to prepare it! We’ll quickly whip up a graham cracker crust and make an incredibly chocolatey cream cheese filling. It’ll taste like a chocolatey cheesecake with a nice crust and crunchy hazelnut topping!

Nutella cream cheese no-bake pie with graham cracker crust, topped with whipped cream and crushed hazelnuts.

Why You’ll Love This No-Bake Cream Cheese Nutella Pie

  • Nutella goodness: I’m always so happy when I purchase a jar of Nutella or any off-brand chocolate hazelnut spread! However, I’m making this pie extra special by using my Homemade Vegan Coconut Nutella! Your favorite chocolate hazelnut spread will work for this recipe, but if you have the time and inclination to do so - or you can’t eat store-bought chocolate hazelnut spreads because they contain dairy - then I really recommend you try out the homemade Nutella!
  • Graham cracker crust: It’s homemade and super tasty!
  • Cream cheese delight: Are you a cheesecake lover? Then this is for you! Cream cheese will be mixed into your Nutella for a cheesecake taste in every bite!
  • Amazing texture and layers: I just love enjoying the crust, filling, and toppings all together! This pie comes together so nicely, and it’ll be hard to decide your favorite part of the pie!
  • Kid-friendly: Because there’s no oven or stove involved and only a couple of ingredients, get the little ones involved and have some fun! I’m sure they’ll really enjoy mashing the graham crackers!

Ingredients for No-Bake Nutella Cream Cheese Pie

We only need SIX simple ingredients for our pie! Be sure to get all ingredient quantities by scrolling to the bottom of this post for the FULL PRINTABLE RECIPE CARD! You can also scale the recipe if you want to make two or more pies! The standard recipe makes one pie that is 9.5 inches by 9.5 inches.

Ingredients for no-bake Nutella cream cheese pie: graham crackers, butter, cream cheese, Nutella, chocolate spread, and whipped topping.

For the Crust

  • Graham crackers: The star of our crust, and they’ll be crushed. I’m using gluten-free graham crackers to make my pie gluten-free. You can use regular graham crackers if you’re making this for folks who don’t have a gluten-intolerance.
  • Butter: Unsalted butter is my preference because it won’t affect the taste of our crust. We’ll melt the butter in with the crushed graham crackers.

For the Nutella-Cream Cheese Filling

  • Nutella: Store-bought or homemade, use whatever you’ve got!
  • Cream cheese: You can use it from the tub or a block. However, if you’re using a block, ensure that it’s at room temperature so it softens. I prefer the texture of the tub, and it worked just fine for me! You can use whole fat or reduced fat cream cheese (I used one tub of reduced fat and a bit of the whole fat tub because there were not two tubs of whole fat! Whole fat is my recommendation, but the light clearly did the job, most likely because my homemade Nutella had lots of natural fats from the coconut oil and hazelnuts. I wouldn’t recommend fat free cream cheese.

For the Topping

  • Hazelnuts: Chopped hazelnuts for a nice crunch on top and to really celebrate hazelnuts! You could even add whole hazelnuts if you’d like.
  • Whipped cream: I topped my pie with canned whipped cream because that’s what I had on hand. As I mention in my Make Cooking Fun! free guide to motivate you in the kitchen, I always recommend using ingredients that are already in the house before you go out of your way to buy new ones. Technically, you should be using Cool Whip because it will not split in the freezer. However, I do prefer the taste and texture of whipped cream, and I’ve always got a can or two in the fridge! When I took it out to enjoy the next day, I simply just topped my pie slice with fresh whipped cream. If you want best results for keeping your pie longer term, then I would go with Cool Whip. However, if you think the pie will be gone in a day, then whipped cream is my choice! If you really want to, you can even Make Your Own Whipped Cream.

How to Make No-Bake Nutella Pie

Prepare the crust by smashing all of the graham crackers until they are broken down completely.

Add the crushed crackers to a bowl and then pour in the melted butter and mix well. The mixture should be crumbly and should clump together easily.

Add the cracker mixture to a 9-10 inch pie dish and pat the crust evenly so that it is even at the bottom and has a slight lip on the edges. Add to the freezer and chill for 1-2 hours

Tips for an Incredible No-Bake Nutella Pie

  • Check that the crackers are crumbly and clump together easily after the butter is mixed in. This will help ensure the crust sets properly and is not too dry.
  • Make a nice and even crust that is at least 1/4 of an inch thick to support the nutella filling. You can always make it thicker if crust is what you like.
  • Allow the pie filling and the crust enough time to set in the fridge to ensure the crust is firm and the filling is just right.

Variations

  • Toppings: I kept my toppings simple so the pie can really shine and we can appreciate the Nutella cream cheese filling and crust. However, feel free to get creative and make the most eye-catching pie out there! If you want to add some more chocolate goodness, try topping with chocolate chips or shaved chocolate using a peeler. You could also add some sauce, such as my Cafe Mocha Syrup, Simple Caramel Sauce or even some Pumpkin Spice Sauce to make your pie fall-themed! For more graham cracker goodness, add some reserved crushed graham crackers on top.
  • For one: For a single portion pie or to make this recipe for two, reduce the ingredient quantities and prepare the pie in a trifle dish.

Troubleshooting

Why Is the Crust Soggy?▼
  • Make sure to check that you added enough butter to the crumbled graham crackers. The crackers should clump together easily if the amount of butter is correct. Try avoiding adding too much butter as well.
  • You need to ensure that you allow the crust to set in the fridge or freezer for a sufficient amount of time to allow it to firm up.
  • Make sure that you keep the pie is proper storage to ensure that excess moisture from the toppings don’t leak into the the crust to make it soggy.
  • A thin crust can also make it difficult to have a strong enough base to hold the toppings above. Go for at least 1/4 of an inch of crust thickness.
Why Didn’t the Nutella Cream Cheese Filling Set?▼

For this recipe, the only two ingredients for the filling are cream cheese and nutella, which are both quite thick at room temperature. The only reason this filling won’t set properly is if you don’t allow the pie enough time to set in the fridge. Give it at least 2-3 hours; I realise it won’t be easy to resist.

Do YOu Serve Nutella Cream Pie at Room temperature or chilled?▼

Either or works! Let me tell you that to be honest, I find this pie so so delicious when it’s been microwaved for about 20 seconds! The Nutella filling gets molten and I find enjoying this warm enhances the Nutella flavours. Furthermore, this crust is excellent because it doesn’t get soggy! The warmer you serve the pie, the gooier it’ll be. It’ll be quite firm and very cold if you take it right out of the freezer, and still slightly firm if you take it out from the refrigerator. At the end of the day, it’s all up to preference!

How to store NUtella No-Bake Pie▼

All you need to do is cover your pie dish with plastic wrap. If you want to store your pie sliced, place the pie slices in an airtight container in the refrigerator. No-Bake Nutella Cream Cheese Pie will last for 2 days in the fridge. I recommend you store the pie without the whipped cream and chopped hazelnut garnish if you’re using canned whipped cream so that you get fresh, airy and fluffy whipped cream

Can I freeze No-Bake Nutella Cream Cheese Pie?▼

Of course, that’s totally the idea behind this pie recipe! If you can’t eat the pie then you can freeze your pie for about 3 to 4 months. To defrost your pie, simply place it in the refrigerator overnight before serving.
