Okay, I really love chocolate. I don’t tend to go for “extravagant” desserts like cookies n creme, birthday cake, s’mores. I like simple. Simple classic chocolate. What cake would I like to eat? Chocolate! Ice cream? Chocolate! Cookies? Just some double chocolate cookies please! Mousse? I hope it’s chocolate!
You guys get the idea. I just love it so much! I’m very adventurous when I’m cooking my other meals in the day, but I like to be “safer” for desserts. I know, maybe I should step outside of my comfort zone to gain further knowledge and skills, but my heart and soul almost always goes to chocolate. Can you blame me?
All right, enough on that. The point is that this oatmeal recipe is expressing my true love for chocolate. I do love oatmeal as well, so let’s bring oatmeal to the extreme with loads of chocolate! These are so simple to prepare! Basically let your mind run wild and get creative! Begin by adding the oats and milk to a pot on medium heat and bring this to a simmer. Then, add the cocoa powder and let the oats cook until you’ve reached the desired consistency. Transfer to a bowl and drizzle on some honey, then add your favourite assortment of cookies and chocolate.
Chocolate and Cookie Suggestions
I used what I had available to me. I had some chocolate coins, which are one of my childhood favourite treats. This was a great recipe to use these for! Also, it was my first time trying these Enjoy Life cookies. These are soft bake chocolate chip cookies that are tiny but extremely delicious! For the vegans out there, these cookies are also vegan! I thought these would be great to add to these oats because they’re tiny and I love the softness. They melted a little bit in the hot oats, which resembled dipping cookies on hot chocolate!
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes it taste like cookies?▼
It starts as a rich chocolate oatmeal (cocoa cooked into the oats), then gets topped with as much crumbled cookie and chopped chocolate as you like — so every spoonful has that cookies-and-cream, dessert-for-breakfast feel.
What oats and how much milk?▼
Rolled oats, about ⅔ cup to 1⅓ cups of milk, simmered until thick and creamy. Add a splash more milk if it tightens up too much.
What do the chia seeds do?▼
A couple of teaspoons of chia thicken the oats into a creamy, pudding-like texture and add a little fibre to balance out the indulgent toppings.
How do I make it extra indulgent?▼
Finish the warm oats with a splash of cream and a drizzle of honey, then pile on your favourite cookies and chocolate. It's meant to be a treat, so go as decadent as you like.
