Perfectly crisp and amazingly seasoned, these Super Crispy Air Fryer Cajun Potato Wedges are going to be your go to side for Fryday! These make the most amazing side dish - pair with burgers, chicken wings, or enjoy them on their own with some ketchup!

Did you love the Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wings for #wingwednesday? Well, enjoy Fryday with these superb potato wedges! Fries were one of the first things I rushed to make with my air fryer! I mean, why wouldn’t you? I love my Crispy Oven Baked Fries, but it takes nearly an hour to make them in the oven! With this recipe, you can make the most delicious potato wedges in about 20 minutes with the magic of your air fryer! Also, you may know I love using Cajun spice, so making these wedges Cajun-style totally takes these wedges up a notch. Let’s get to it!

Why Make Air Fryer Cajun Potato Wedges

Potatoes are my life. I could eat them all the time! Actually, when I was a kid I did eat potatoes every day! Potatoes were one of the few foods I actually ate. My parents, sister and I were living with my grandparents. When I was going to move away with my parents and sister, the one question I asked before leaving was “Will there be potatoes?” My grandma sweetly replied, “Yes beta [son], there will be plenty of potatoes!”

Potatoes are so versatile to make a variety of side dishes. From French fries, mashed potatoes, cheesy mozzarella fries, or crispy aloo bhujia, you’ve always got a satisfying option with potatoes!

I’d say potato wedges are one of the easiest! My favourite way to make potato wedges are Cajun-style. Why? Because I love the heat! Cajun seasoning is such an easy way to enhance anything! I like my Amazing Homemade Cajun Spice, and I definitely recommend you make your own seasoning! It’s much more flavourful than store-bought options, and you can control the amount of spices you want in there to truly customize the blend!

As I mentioned above, baking your potato wedges or French fries in the oven takes double the time as it does in the air fryer! If there’s a faster alternative, why wouldn’t you go for it right? As much as I love French fries and potato wedges, a big deterrent for me to make them more often was because of the time! If I was making burgers, sometimes I’d just not bother making potato wedges or fries because I didn’t want to plan over an hour’s worth of time when you take into account the prep, preheating, and cooking while the burger can be ready instantly. If I was starving, that’s just not going to happen! I’ve had comments on my Instagram posts when I’ve made burgers that fries were missing. Yes, I’d have loved to have some fries, but I was just impatient and needed to eat! We’ve all been there, right?

Let me tell you that these potato wedges take only about 20 minutes to make! Take into account prep time, and you’ve got just about 30 minutes! What I love about air frying is that you don’t need to constantly check on your potato wedges. I’ve made wedges in the air fryer while working and just got up to flip. If I forget about them, no worries! The timer will beep beep and the air fryer will just keep them warm. No risk of fires!

My main reason for why you should make these air fryer potato wedges is that you can get very close to achieving that deep-fried taste without deep frying! Yes yes, you’ll never get the true taste unless you actually deep fry. I’m going to say this right now! However, the taste is definitely much closer than it is when you bake in the oven. On a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being tastes like deep fried, I’d say these are a 7!

What Potatoes Should I Use for Potato Wedges?

I like to use Yukon gold or yellow potatoes whenever I make wedges. It’s mostly a personal preference because I find the Yukon gold potatoes to be much creamier in the center with that crispy outside crust. They also have more of that “potatoey” flavour and you really can’t go wrong when it comes to Yukon gold.

How Do I Cut the Potatoes into Wedges?

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Cut the potatoes 1/2 to 1 inch thick

  • Make sure each wedge is about the same size as the other to make sure the potatoes cook consistently

  • To get the “wedge” shape, for the round slices of the potato, cut in half, and then cut each half into another half to get perfect wedges.

Are These Air Fryer Potato Wedges Healthy?

I’d say so! I’m going to drizzle on some olive oil to help get the potato wedges nice and crispy on the outside and get a beautiful golden brown colour. However, we really can’t compare the amount of oil used just to drizzle and coat our wedges for cooking to the amount of oil you use for deep frying! Additionally, to deep fry you typically use vegetable or canola oil, which are refined oils. I’m using olive oil in this recipe, which is loaded with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. Fat is not bad! We need enough fats as part of a balanced diet! Adding a bit of fat will not only help get the wedges looking good, but will add some great flavour that goes so well with the Cajun spice! We’ll get the health benefits from these heart healthy fats, and it could aid in satiety, depending on what else you serve with these wedges!

Ingredients for Cajun Potato Wedges

Well, we don’t need much for these Cajun potato wedges! This is going to be a very short ingredient list. Yay!

How to Make Crispy Air Fryer Cajun Potato Wedges

  1. Add the peeled, cut wedges in a large bowl and fill with cold water and soak for about 25 minutes.

  2. Drain the water and pat the potatoes dry with paper towel/kitchen towel.

  3. Add potatoes back into a bowl, make sure the bowl is dry. Add olive oil and toss well.

  4. Place potatoes in Air Fryer basket. Cook at 350 F for 15 minutes.

  5. Transfer the potatoes back into the bowl and season with cajun spice. Toss well and transfer the potatoes back to the Air Fryer basket.

  6. Cook at 390 F for 5-7 minutes or until crispy. Season with salt and pepper as required and serve right away!

Tips & Tricks for Perfectly Crispy Potato Wedges

  • Cook the potatoes at a lower heat (350 F) to make sure the inside is cooked.

  • Make sure not to overcrowd or overlap the potatoes in the air fryer, otherwise the potatoes will not have the proper air circulation to cook and become crispy

  • Turn up the heat for the final session to get the outside nice and crispy.

  • The Cajun seasoning is added towards the final step, to make sure the dry spices don’t burn.

  • The Cajun spice recipe already has salt, so taste first before adjusting seasoning.

Serving Suggestions

Potato wedges can be served with so many dishes! Here’s what I would recommend:

What Air Fryer Do You Recommend?

The air fryer I have is the Ninja Foodi 6-in-1 2-Basket Air Fryer. One of my favourite parts about it is that there are two baskets! If you’re making two different items, then you can set the two baskets at different cook methods, temperatures, and cook times. This is great if you’re planning on making an entire meal in an air fryer! Without the second basket, I couldn’t have recorded my Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wings simultaneously with this recipe! Yes, a huge timer saver which is a must for me!

There are six settings for this air fryer, which are:

  • Air Fry

  • Air Broil

  • Reheat

  • Dehydrate

  • Bake

  • Roast

I’ve only ever used the Air Fry and Reheat settings, but I’d love to try the others! I still have lots to explore with this air fryer, but I’m very excited to do so! If you want an in-depth review of my first impressions after only a week of using the air fryer, then be sure to check out this video!

What drew me to this air fryer were the settings, the two baskets, and I’ll be honest, the brand! I love my Ninja prep blenders for sauces and purees as well as my Ninja professional blender for smoothies and protein ice creams, so I trusted Ninja would make an awesome air fryer! When I saw it was at a great sale price at Canadian Tire and I totally bought it on impulse! It was love at first use, and I used it every day for a week, sometimes twice a day! I can’t ever go back to not having one, so if you’re on the fence about getting an air fryer and you love your fried food, then I definitely say to go for it!
