Ultimate Creamy Mac and Cheese | Simple Dinner Recipe

Hey everyone, this recipe will show you how to make the best traditional mac and cheese! I use cheddar and mozzarella cheese for the sauce and make the crust using Panko breadcrumbs and some extra cheese and olive oil. These simple ingredients combined will give you the ultimate mac and cheese with so much flavour and so much cheese! Be sure to give it a try, you'll want this over and over again as your comfort food of choice!

  • 1 1/2 cup dried macaroni
  • 1 1/2 tbsp flour
  • 1 1/2 tbsp butter
  • 4 1/2 oz old cheddar
  • 1 1/2 oz mozzarella
  • 1 1/2 cup cold milk
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • salt to taste
  • 3/4 tsp freshly ground pepper
To finish:
  • 1/3 cup whole wheat panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 1/2 oz old cheddar
  • 1 1/2 oz mozzarella
  • Drizzle of olive oil
  1. Bring water to boil in a large pot for your pasta
  2. Salt your water and add in your macaroni, cook as per packaged instructions and drain.
  3. Heat a high sided pan on medium heat and then add your butter.
  4. Once the butter melts, mix in the flour and cook for 2-3 mins until the rawness of the flour is cooked out
  5. Pour in your milk, little bit at a time while whisking to ensure no lumps. Once all your milk is mixed in, wait until your sauce starts to come to a boil.
  6. Once your sauce starts coming up to a boil, it will begin to thicken. Add in nutmeg, salt, pepper and taste for seasoning. 
  7. Once the sauce has thicken turn the heat off and add in 4 1/2 oz of cheddar and 1 1/2 oz of mozzarella and mix until the cheese melts
  8. Mix in your macaroni with the cheese sauce and transfer into an oven safe dish or casserole and sprinkle the rest of your cheese, Panko breadcrumbs and a drizzle of olive oil.
  9. Bake in the oven at 350 for 15-20 mins
