How to Make Homemade Pizza | Making Your First Homemade Pizza

Here I will provide the basic recipe to create a cheese pizza, and you can add your favourite toppings to make the pizza your own, as I show you in the video below. To see how to make the dough for this pizza, check out this blog post. This recipe will show how I prepare the pizza dough for toppings and the way I cook it in the oven. You can see in the video how I make a simple and quick pizza sauce!

Equipment required:
  • 2 pizza stones
  • 1 pizza peel
Ingredients (for two pizzas)
  • 2 13 oz basic pizza dough (found on this post: )
  • 1/2 cup of tomato sauce (recipe in the video above)
  • 225 g grated mozzarella cheese
  • Your favourite toppings
  • Dusting mixture - 75 g semolina, 75 g flour used to make your pizza dough
  1. Take out your pizza dough and leave it at room temperature one hour before preparing your pizza. At the same time, preheat your oven at 500 F and place one pizza stone on the top rack and one pizza stone at the bottom rack.
  2. Make sure your pizza sauce is at room temperature before you spread it out on the pizza.
  3. Now that your oven has been preheating for an hour and your dough has been resting at room temperature, it is time to transfer your dough onto your work surface.
  4. On a dry, clean work surface, sprinkle some of your dusting mixture and using a dough cutter, transfer your pizza dough face side down onto your dusting surface. Sprinkle some more of your dusting mixture on the top of your dough and gently flip the dough back to its original position.
  5. Next, we will start shaping our dough. Starting from the edge, using the side of your hands, press down and form a basic rim to your dough. Start spreading the dough while maintaining the rim and you will notice that the dough will easily react to your motion and start expanding.
  6. Eventually, when the dough has reached an even consistency, start tossing the dough between your hands while rotating and this is going to help expand the dough even more while maintaining an even thickness.
  7. Once your dough is about 13 inches in diameter, sprinkle your pizza peel with some of your dusting mixture and transfer your dough onto your peel.
  8. Now, acting quickly, spread out your pizza sauce using the back of a spoon or a ladle and sprinkle half of your cheese. Add your favourite toppings and give the peel a jerk (quick back and forth motion) to make sure your dough is not stuck on the peel. If so, gently lift the pizza and add in more of your dusting mixture and jerk again to ensure nothing is stuck.
  9. Now transfer your dough using a quick push and pull motion onto your pizza peel in the top oven rack. Set a timer for 6 minutes.
  10. After about 2-3 minutes, check your pizza to see if any bubbles have formed. If so, quickly pop them using a fork or knife as these bubbles may burn as the pizza cooks.
  11. After 6 minutes, take your pizza out onto your pizza peel. Rotate 180 degrees and transfer it onto your bottom pizza stone. Set a timer for 5 minutes.
  12. At this point, you can prepare and transfer your second pizza onto the first stone.
  13. Closely monitor your pizza and ensure your crust does not have any pale or black spots and once your cheese is melted and bubbling and your crust is nicely browned, take your pizza out. Let it cool down for a few minutes and cut it and enjoy your delicious homemade pizza!
